The Ladies 2nd XI made it 3 wins out of 4 to guide them to mid-table in Norfolk Division 1 as they beat UEA 3s this week 2-1 at Watton Sports Centre, there report here:
What a game and what a result. We started where we left off last week. Determined and resilient. Pouring pressure on the UEA defence but just not quite making the vital finishing touch that would convert the pressure to a deserved goal. 20 minutes of pressure, a single quick break by UEA and goal. 1-0 down.
In days gone by that would have signaled a collapse, but not this team. A re-focusing half time chat and back to it. Fighting for every ball the girls started to dominate again and were rewarded with a well taken equaliser from Rachel Calvert. Watton's renewed self belief always looked likely to reap the maximum reward and so it did. With 5 mins remaining in a spell of consistent pressure from Watton, Sian Evans got the vital touch for the vital winning goal.
Another team that got a crucial win was the Ladies 1s as they picked up a much needed first win of 2017 away to IES, goals from Lauren Smith and 2 from Jemma Jackson gave the 1s an important 3-2 victory. There report as follows:
Watton Ladies Firsts came away with a tremendous win against a very tough IES. IES scored the first goal but it didn't take us long to get into action with brilliant passing and defensive play. With Jemma's brilliant goals from the well set up short corners, one being from a right slip and another on a straight strike. Bea's awesome pass across the D, through IES defence to Lauren to score and fantastic defending we managed to walk away with the win! A MASSIVE thank you to Mary Cheesman who stayed on our bench to offer support and direction. Man of the match was Holly for her excellent work in goal all game. Wally went to Jasmine for her amazing army roll in the middle of the pitch.
It wasn't a great day for either of the Mens teams, as the 1st xi lost at home to league leaders Ipswich 3s 4-1 with Sean Billington scoring the consolation goal, meanwhile the 2nd xi also had a tough day as they lost 5-0 away to Dragons. The Ladies 3s didn't have a game as did the Ladies Devs.
