Another win for Ladies 2's

UEA 3 - 0 Watton L2 - 2

What a performance! With 6 players out and having to go to UEA with just 10, turning up and seeing the opposition warm up with a squad of 16, the odds were really stacked against us.

But this L2's team has something special. It has real guts.

From the start we all knew this was going to be a long, hard day as the game started quickly, with UEA pushing hard. But we stood firm, with Captain Rachel, GK Lissy, Sarah, Billie and new girl Julie Wilkins clearly thinking 'thou shalt not pass'.

Then we broke through the pressure and almost scored. More chances came for Watton with some great link up play, but the UEA keeper played a blinder, keeping us out.

Could we actually do this???? 0-0 at half time. So far so good.

UEA restarted strongly, their half time talk clearly based around our short numbers, but still, we stood firm. Then the unimaginable. Great work by Catherine and Holly and Sian broke through from the 25 yard line, leaving the UEA defence trailing, one on one with the keeper, GOAL.

We can do this. Keep the ball, work hard, protect the lead, they were the instructions with 25 long minutes to go. Catherine's enthusiasm saw her leave the pitch with a green card, down to 9. Keep going. Wicks and Holly running their legs off. 10 minutes to go. Penalty Corner to Watton, take your time 3 minutes to go. Sian injected, Sarah controlled and bang. GOAL!!!!

The final whistle was a welcome relief but make no mistake, this was not a smash and grab, this was deserved.

Superb effort by all concerned.

Player of the match was shared by Sian and Holly and Wendy award went to Vicky for only avoiding a yellow card because the umpire felt sorry for her. The manager has the sorest knees now but still has the biggest smile.

Well done ladies.
