A win for Watton Ladies 2

Watton 2 6 - 1 Thetford 1

Following up on the disappointing result of last week, despite the good performance it was imperative that L2's developed a more clinical edge going into this game.

After a disrupted start to the game Watton struggled to find a rhythm against 10 player Thetford. But then the chances came, followed by the goals.

A 4-0 lead at half time never looked like being overturned even when Thetford's 11th player joined the game. The additional player definitely made a difference but the good mix of youth and experience in Watton's side lead to 2 further goals in the second half with a single reply from the visitors. Sian struck a super hat trick. A cameo goal (followed up by a pulled bum muscle) came in an eventful 7 minutes of pitch time for Kimbo. Megan Herbert capped a good personal performance with a very well taken strike and a penalty stroke was expertly tucked away by Alex in her welcome return to her home town team.

Player of the match was Sarah Beck, for her predictably commanding performance.

Watton will face more testing competition than they did in this match but this will give everyone the boost they needed. With all due respect to Thetford, they worked hard in adversity and we would like to pass on our best wishes to their absent player who had to miss the game for family reasons. We hope all is well.
